Global English: a language of controversy?
The Open University
ジャンル: 英語
リリース日: 2012年1月12日

<div>‘Britain and America,’ wrote George Bernard Shaw, ‘are two countries divided by a common language.’ That witty comment summarises the problems and complexities of English. It has ended up as a world language, the widely used language of commerce and the internet.<br><br>But today’s widespread adoption and use of English is a complex story. Grammatically it’s hard to learn, it has many variants and comes with its own history. Its global distribution is largely due to its imposition through British colonial expansion, where it became the language of authority, control and oppression. Those malign beginnings still carry resentments around the world, and continue to pose questions. Is it arrogant to expect other countries to learn it while Anglophones don’t bother to learn their languages? Or is it a good thing that we’ve found common ground in a multicultural world?<br><br>The idea of English as a global language is controversial, particularly for people in non-English-speaking countries. This learning pathway examines that controversial nature as well as its cultural and economic importance. Using text, video and audio it explores what English means to those who use it and what it means to learn English, both as a mother tongue and an additional language.</div>

Justice
Harvard University
ジャンル: 倫理学
リリース日: 2012年9月28日

<div><div>Justice is one of the most popular courses in Harvard's history. Nearly one thousand students pack Harvard's historic Sanders Theatre to hear Professor Sandel talk about justice, equality, democracy, and citizenship. Now it's your turn to take the same journey in moral reflection that has captivated more than 14,000 students, as Harvard opens its classroom to the world.</div><div><br></div><div>This course aims to help viewers become more critically minded thinkers about the moral decisions we all face in our everyday lives.</div><div><br></div><div>Over 12 weeks of lectures, Sandel challenges us with difficult moral dilemmas and asks our opinion about the right thing to do. He then asks us to examine our answers in the light of new scenarios. The result is often surprising, revealing that important moral questions are never black and white.</div></div>

Human Emotion
Yale University
ジャンル: 心理学
リリース日: 2013年10月14日

<div><div>This course introduces students to a diverse array of theoretical and empirical issues related to the study of human emotion. Some questions the course will address include: What are our emotions? What purpose do they serve? How do emotions relate to our thoughts, memories, and behaviors towards others? What happens when our emotional responses go awry? Although these questions date back to early philosophical texts, only recently have experimental psychologists begun to explore this vast and exciting domain of study. The course will begin by discussing the evolutionary origins of distinct emotions such as love, anger, fear, and disgust. We will ask how emotions might color our cognitive processes such as thinking and memory, the relationship between emotions and the brain, development of emotions in childhood, and how emotions shape our social relationships. We will also consider how these methods can be applied to studying mental illness in both children and adults. We conclude by studying the pursuit of happiness and well-being, trying to understand what makes us happy.</div><div>This course is part of a broader educational mission to share the study of human emotion beyond the boundaries of the classroom in order to reach students and teachers alike, both locally and globally, through the use of technology.&nbsp;</div><div>This mission is generously supported by, and in collaboration with, the Yale Office of Digital Dissemination and the Yale College Dean's Office. This series was recorded and produced by Douglas Forbush, Lucas Swineford, and the Yale Broadcasting and Media Center.</div></div>

Each lesson employs the need for recall and convergent, divergent, and evaluative thinking to accommodate different types of learners. These materials accommodate a wide variety of teaching styles and pedagogical approaches, including "active" learning techniques, constructionist methodology, Bloom and Blosser learning taxonomies, "Demonstrate, Collaborate, Facilitate" approaches, peer-supported learning, and your own effective methods. Lessons are flexible, and provide opportunities to answer the "what, how, what if, and why?" to engage student learning and cognition. Lastly, lessons and exercises recognize gender, ethnic and cultural bias, and we have designed these materials to be open to a diverse classroom.</div></div><div><br></div><div>With this collection of lesson plans,&nbsp;instructors can engage students with a project-based curriculum, and guide students in learning programming with Swift.&nbsp;<div>These course materials do not dictate a step-by-step script for your course. Farm to Table Food Safety
The Ohio State University
ジャンル: 医学/薬学
リリース日: 2015年10月22日

<div>This course is designed to provide public health professionals with the overarching concepts and critical details about the control of foodborne hazards associated with animal production. It is divided into three sequenced modules: food animal production systems, foodborne pathogens, and foodborne pathogen control systems. These three modules are designed to sequentially provide students with an understanding of the animal reservoirs of food safety pathogens (especially livestock production systems), the epidemiology and public health aspects and significant food safety pathogens, and mechanisms for interrupting the transmission of these pathogens to people through food.In the first module (11 lecture hours), the students will receive an overview of livestock production, including how animal-derived food products (milk, meat, eggs and seafood) get from the farm to the table. On-farm critical control points for foodborne pathogens and other health risks will be reviewed. In the second module (11 hours), the most common food-borne bacterial and viral diseases will be described in detail, with special emphasis on the epidemiology and transmission of pathogens that cause the largest burden of illness in the United States. Lastly, the third module (13 lecture hours) will focus on mechanisms for interrupting the transmission of these pathogens to people. These mechanisms include application of hazard analysis in pre- and post-harvest food systems, safe food handling, and foodborne outbreak detection and response. Students will gain an overview of the regulations designed to improve food safety in domestic and international food trade. Other topics critical for veterinary public<br></div>
